Beguiling musicianship, fervent lyricism and intense tonal beauty comprise merely a few of the qualities that have secured Sergej Krylov’s place amongst the world’s most renowned performers. The violinist displays breathtaking virtuosity as he provides profound and expressive insights into the works forming his exceptionally broad repertoire.
In recent years, Sergej has performed all over Europe with major orchestras and conductors. Among them, the London Philharmonic (Osmo Vanska), Philharmonia Orchestra (Juraj Valcuha), the DSO Berlin (Ton Koopman), Orchestre National de Lyon (Nikolaj Znaider), Orchestre Philharmonique de Monte-Carlo (Jukka-Pekka Saraste), Filarmonica della Scala (Fabio Luisi), Belgian National Orchestra (Stanislav Kochanovsky) and Royal Philharmonic (Marin Alsop).
His collaborations over the past decade have included leading conductors, such as Vasily Petrenko, Jukka-Pekka Saraste, Marin Alsop, Nikolaj Zhaider, Ton Koopman, Roberto Abbado, Mikhail Pletnev, Andrey Boreyko, Dmitry Liss, Andris Poga, Tonu Kaljuste, Vladimir Jurowsky, Osmo Vanska, David Afkham, Fabio Luisi.
As Music Director of the Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra, Krylov usually acts as soloist and conductor in a wide repertoire that ranges from Baroque to contemporary music. In recent years, he has increased his activity as a conductor, working with orchestras such as the Russian National Orchestra, the English Chamber Orchestra, the Zagreb Philharmonic, the Pomeriggi Musicali Milan and the Teatro Carlo Felice Genoa, the Novosibirsk Philharmonic and many others.
In addition to early recordings for Melodiya and EMI, Krylov’s discography includes two releases on Deutsche Grammophon: Vivaldi Four Seasons with the Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra and Paganini’s 24 Caprices, for Sony Classical, the world-premiere of Ezio Bosso’s Violin Concerto “Esoconcerto”.
He also recorded Krzysztof Penderecki’s Violin Concerto “Metamorphosen” under the Polish composer’s direction, as part of a landmark project to record Penderecki’s complete works.
Born into a family of musicians, Sergej began studying the violin at the age of five. A graduate of the Central Music School in Moscow (class of S.I. Kravchenko), and a student of Abram Stern and Salvatore Accardo, Sergej Krylov holds the post of Professor at the Lugano Conservatory in Switzerland since 2012. He has taken part in the jury of numerous prestigious international competitions, including the XVI International P.I. Tchaikovsky, the 10th Fritz Kreisler Violin Competition in Vienna as well as the 55th and 56th editions of the International Niccolò Paganini Competition in Genoa, where he was a chairman of the Jury.
