Ton Koopman founded the Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra (ABO) in 1979. The group consists of internationally renowned Baroque specialists who meet up several times a year and work together to prepare and perform exciting new programmes. For the musicians each concert is a new experience and Koopman’s boundless energy and enthusiasm are a sure guarantee of the highest quality. ABO is looking forward to celebrating its 45th anniversary in 2024, together with Maestro Koopman’s 80th birthday.

The Amsterdam Baroque Choir (ABC) was founded in 1992 and it made its debut during the Holland Festival of Early Music in Utrecht performing the world première of the Requiem (for 15 voices) and Vespers (for 32 voices) by H.I.F. Biber. The recording of both works won the Cannes Classical Award for best performance of 17th/18th century choral music. For its rare combination of textural clarity and interpretative flexibility, ABC is considered among today’s most outstanding choirs.
Between 1994 and 2004 Ton Koopman and his ABO&C realised one of the most ambitious recording projects of the last decades: the integral recording of Bach’s secular and sacred Cantatas. For this extraordinary project, Koopman and his ensembles received the Deutsche Schallplatten- Preis Echo Klassik.

In 2014, ABO&C finished another special recording project: performing and recording all surviving works by Dieterich Buxtehude, a great source of inspiration for the young Johann Sebastian Bach. The CD series Dieterich Buxtehude Opera Omnia includes Buxtehudes chamber music, harpsichord-, organ-, and vocal works.

ABO&C have recorded a great variety of works from the baroque and classical periods: from Bach’s Passions to all Mozart’s symphonies, and from Locatelli’s concerti grossi to Christmas songs. Major recognitions include Gramophone Award, Diapason d’Or, Prix Hector Berlioz, Edison Awards, BBC Award and Echo Klassik Award.

Ton Koopman and his ABO&C are regular guests at the great concert halls and festivals of Europe, North America, and Asia.

Nel 2024, ABO festeggerà il suo 45° anniversario, insieme all’80° compleanno del Maestro Koopman.

L’Amsterdam Baroque Choir (ABC) è stato fondato nel 1992 e ha fatto il suo debutto al Festival di Musica Antica di Utrecht con l’esecuzione in prima mondiale del “Requiem a 15 voci” e dei “Vespri a 32 voci” di H.I.F. Biber. La successiva incisione di entrambe le opere è stata premiata con il “Cannes Classical Award” per la migliore interpretazione di musica corale del XVII/XVIII secolo. Grazie alla rara combinazione tra chiarezza e flessibilità, l’Amsterdam Baroque Choir è considerato uno dei migliori cori dei nostri giorni.

Tra il 1994 e il 2004, Ton Koopman e l’ABO&C hanno intrapreso uno dei più ambiziosi progetti discografici degli ultimi decenni: l’esecuzione e la registrazione integrale delle Cantate sacre e profane di Bach. Per questo straordinario progetto, Koopman e l’Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra & Choir hanno ricevuto il “Deutsche Schallplatten-Preis Echo Klassik”.

Nel 2014, ABO&C ha portato a termine un altro grande progetto discografico: l’esecuzione e la registrazione di tutte le opere superstiti di Dieterich Buxtehude, autore di grande ispirazione per il giovane Bach. La raccolta di CD Dieterich Buxtehude Opera Omnia include musica da camera, per clavicembalo e organo ed opere vocali.

L’ABO&C ha registrato una grande varietà di opere barocche e classiche: dalle Passioni di Bach a tutte le sinfonie di Mozart, dai concerti grossi di Locatelli a canzoni di Natale. I principali riconoscimenti includono il Gramophone Award, Diapason d’Or, Prix Hector Berlioz, Edison Awards, BBC Award ed Echo Klassik Award.

Ton Koopman e la sua ABO&C sono frequentemente ospiti nelle più grandi sale concerto d’Europa, Nord America e Asia.

Der Amsterdam Baroque Choir (ABC) wurde 1992 gegründet und debütierte beim Holland Festival Oude Muziek in Utrecht mit einer zweifachen Weltpremiere: mit dem Requiem (à 15) und der Vesperae (à 32) von H.I.F.Biber. Die Aufnahme dieses Konzertes wurde mit dem Cannes Classical Award für die beste Darbietung von Chormusik aus dem 17. und 18. Jahrhundert ausgezeichnet. Aufgrund der seltenen Kombination von textueller Klarheit und interpretativer Flexibilität zählt der Amsterdam Baroque Choir zu den besten Chören der Gegenwart.

In den Jahren 1994-2004 haben Ton Koopman und sein Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra & Choir (ABO&C) das bis daher wohl ehrgeizigste Aufnahmeprojekt realisiert: Die vollständige Aufnahme von J.S. Bachs weltlichen und geistlichen Kantaten. Hierfür erhielten Ton Koopman und das ABO&C den Deutschen Schallplattenpreis Echo Klassik. Im Jahr 2014 dann die Vervollständigung des nächsten Mammutprojekts: Die Gesamteinspielung des Werkes Dietrich Buxtehudes, der seinerzeit eine große Inspirationsquelle für den jungen Bach dargestellt hatte. Die Dietrich Buxtehude Opera Omnia-Edition umfasst alle überlieferten Werke der Kammermusik, sowie die Cembalo-, Orgel- und Vokal-Werke.

Das Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra & Choir hat klangvolle Aufnahmen aller wichtigen barocken und klassischen Werke für verschiedene Labels eingespielt und wurde dafür mit vielen Preisen ausgezeichnet, darunter: Gramophone Award, Diapason d’Or, Prix Hector Berlioz, Edison Awards, BBC Award und Echo Klassik Award.

Ton Koopman und sein ABO&C sind regelmäßig zu Gast in den großen Konzertsälen Europas, der USA und Asiens.
